Use your fingers?

In the art studio the children got to fingerpaint with Mr. Elrod our art instructor at SVN. The kids had a great time fingepainting and cleaning up. Parents I have sent some of the fingerpaintings home and some are displayed in the classroom.

En el estudio de arte de los niños tiene que pintar con los dedos con el Sr. Elrod nuestro instructor de arte en SVN. Los niños la pasaron muy bien fingepainting y la limpieza. Los padres me han enviado algunos de la casa fingerpaintings y algunos se muestran en el salón de clases.

Courtyard Fun

Sometimes we get very bored with the playground. When we get bored we pack up our things from inside and have a play date in the school's courtyard. It's a great way to freshen things up and give the children more room to explore the materials. (Pictures by Arthur Perez)

A veces se ponen muy aburrido con el patio de recreo. Cuando nos aburrimos empacamos nuestras cosas desde el interior y tiene una cita para jugar en el patio de la escuela. Ms. B and her magical tubes!

We have a new friend in Pre-K this year, Ms. Brianne Teevan. Ms. B is the creator of Kansas City's Bambini Creativi, an early learning project inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach to teaching young children. Ms. B will be extending our learning's in the classroom by bringing new materials and ideas to the group. We will also be visiting Ms. B at her studio every other Friday. Tenemos un nuevo amigo en Pre-K este año, la Sra. Brianne Teevan. La Sra. Empire State Of Mind

Something interesting happened the other day in the block area. I had recently developed some pictures of my trip to New York this summer and decided to see what would happen if I put the pictures in the block area. Within minutes the children were creating their own buildings and skyscrapers. I thought it was so cool that the children were able to see the beauty in the pictures and integrate it into their block play.

Algo interesante ocurrió el otro día en el área de bloques. Había desarrollado recientemente algunas fotos de mi viaje a Nueva York este verano y decidió ver qué pasaba si me pongo las fotos en el área de bloques. En cuestión de minutos los niños estaban creando sus propios edificios y rascacielos. Pensé que era tan fresco que los niños fueron capaces de ver la belleza en las fotos e integrarlo en su juego de bloque.

Mr. Nick I can get the Magazines?

This years class has made a stand against the phony black and white pictures that are usually found in math curriculum to use as cutouts. This classroom has made up their mind that they want the real deal, and the real deal is magazines. The children have really enjoyed identifying, sorting, and comparing pictures during our learning's about sorting, weight, shapes, and comparing. Also the constant use of scissors have really allowed me to get some great assessments on the children's fine motor development.

Sorting, Sorting, Sorting

I wanted to share a few pics of the children sorting We really hit this concept pretty hard as we sorted manipulative's, classroom items, outdoor items, everyday items, sang about sorting, read books about sorting, and sorted ourselves. My favorite activity was when we sorted all of the clothes from the lost and found box. It was cool to talk about the many different ways we could sort the lost and found. Parents next time you do laundry ask your child to sort the clothes, if they refuse tell them it is homework! -Mr. Nick

Lots of shapes in historic northeast!

During our shape learning's, we decided to take trip around the neighborhood to see if we could find different shapes. The children were very excited as they found out that shapes were everywhere. We were greeted by neighbors as they laughed at the kids yelling, "Mr. Nick I found a square." or " I found another shape, come take a picture". We enjoyed finding shapes and admiring the beauty of our neighborhood.

Durante nuestra forma de aprendizaje, hemos decidido tomar la vuelta al barrio para ver si podíamos encontrar formas diferentes. Los niños estaban muy emocionados, ya que descubrió que las formas estaban por todas partes. Fuimos recibidos por los vecinos, ya que se echó a reír a los niños gritando, "me encontré al señor Nick un cuadrado." o "He encontrado otra forma, vamos hacer una foto".
