Mr. Nick's Summer Pics

Before we left for the summer I told the kids I would share some pictures with the kids about my trip to New York City. During the day I got the chance to learn reading instruction at Columbia University and at night I got to explore the city. The first picture is from Times Square and the picture with the Dino relics are from the Natural History Museum.

Antes de salir para el verano le dije a los chicos que iba a compartir algunas fotos con los niños acerca de mi viaje a Nueva York. Durante el día tuve la oportunidad de aprendizaje enseñanza de la lectura en la Universidad de Columbia y en la noche llegué a explorar la ciudad. La primera foto es de Times Square y la imagen con las reliquias Dino son del Museo de Historia Natural.

Math Work

A couple of pictures showing the children creating their own more or less word problems. Parents remember at the first of the year when we were cheering for circles and lines from the kids, and now they are writing and drawing their own math problems. Great job kids!- Mr. Nick

Construction Update #7

This is a short video of Kathy Burke of Gastinger, Walker, Harden, Architects, visit to SVN Pre-k. Ms. Burke really extended the children's learning about architects, measuring, planning, and building. I think we have some future architects in the classroom!

Construction Update #6

Last week we used our learning about shapes and construction to create blueprints. To help us with our blueprints we called in the experts. On Tuesday our 7th and 8th grade friends, who recently won awards for their work in the Crayons to CAD program, helped us. The Crayons to CAD program launches students into understanding the built environment as they construct and plan their own structures. On Wednesday we got a visit from Kathy Burke, an architect from Gastinger, Walker, Harden Architects. Ms. Burke brought many examples of the work her firm has done and answered the kids questions about blueprints and her profession.
